-=Chapter 5=-

***Dann’s Perspective***

I sat in the outer office at the school with Robin sitting next to me holding my hand. Our parents were in speaking to Principal Dowlin about getting us both into the beginning spell casting class our first year. Spell casting is normally a 4th year course, but because of what happened this morning they all figured that it would be a good idea for us to take it early.

When they came out of the Principal’s office they told us that after doing some creative juggling with our schedules we would be taking the spell casting course in addition to our regular first year classes. We were also informed that Robin’s mother had been offered a job at the school. Seems that something had come up and the person that was originally supposed to be the schools nurse had to back out at the last minute. So now Robin's mom would be the school nurse.

Even though it was still two weeks before school started, Mr. Dowlin informed us that there was already one student in attendance. Seems his folks had to go away on business before the day when most of the students would be coming in, so they sent him up early. “He'll be in your classes boys. Since he's here early and there is still nearly two weeks before any of the other students start arriving, I thought it might be a good idea to introduce you guys.” Mr. Dowlin told us.

We walked around to the dormitory wing and went up the three flights of stairs to the boys’ floor. We walked down to one of the dorm suites, which just happened to be the same one that Robin and I had been assigned, and found this boy sitting in the common room playing on a gameboy. He was sitting facing the windows with his back to the door, so I wasn't able to really see what he looked like.

Mr. Dowlin cleared his through to get the kids attention since he didn't seem to notice us coming in the door. “Ryan, there's some people that I would like you to meet.”

The kid put down his game, got up, and turned around to face us. What I saw was a kid that was a little heavier than Robin with the brightest red hair I had ever seen. He was a little pale, but still had color because of the over-abundance of freckles that covered his face. “Ryan,” Mr. Dowlin continued, “Since you're here two weeks early, I thought it would be nice for you to meet a couple of your dorm-mates. They don't live to far away at the moment, but will be moving in here to the dorms once school starts. Ryan, I want you to meet Dann Drake and Robin Starr. Guys, this is Ryan Mark. Well, I'll leave you three to get acquainted while I go show Robins mom where she'll be working.” and with that he was out the door.

The three of us just stood there for a few minutes looking at each other. “Ok, this is uncomfortable.” Robin sent to me over our link.

I figured that I had nothing to lose so I took the initiative, “Hey Ryan, what were you playing there?” I asked indicating his gameboy.

“What do you guys care? I don't even know why you're here. Nobody has ever wanted to be my friend before. Not really any ways, they only want to use me and then forget about me. So you guys might as well just go ahead and leave now and save us all a bunch of time.”

I was shocked to say the least and I could feel the shock and sympathy that Robin was feeling for this kid too. “Dude, just chill man.” Robin said finally speaking up. “How do we know if we are going to be friends if we don't get to know each other first? But if the way you just snapped at us is any indication of how you normally treat new people, then I can see why you don't have any friends.”

Calm down babe, no reason to meet his hostility with your own.” I sent to my boyfriend, “I sense that something has happened in his past to make him feel like that. Give him a chance. Let me try this again.”

I looked back at Ryan, “Ok, let's see if we can start this over again. My name is Dann, and this guy next to me is my boyfriend Robin. We are going to be spending the next 5 years living together here, so we might as well get to know each other and try to be friends. You never know, we just might end up having a bunch of things in common with each other, or we might not have anything in common, but have skills that can complement each other. What do you say?”

Ryan looked at my outstretched hand, then up at the both of us. “Did you say he's your boyfriend?” I couldn't quite figure out the tone of voice that he asked that in. It wasn't really disgust, but more one of unbelief.

“Yah, do you have a problem with that?” Robin snapped at him, I could feel that he thought he had asked it with hostility and disgust. I put my hand on his shoulder to try and calm him down some and shared some of my calm with him.

“No, no problem.” he said taking a step back away from Robin. “One of my cousins is gay, I was just a bit surprised that you would be so open about it to a total stranger.”

I smiled at him and felt Robin finally start to relax. “Well, you are here at a school for magick, so I would naturally assume that you have been brought up like most people in the magickal community to accept it.”

“So,” Ryan paused and actually blushed a little bit before continuing, “how long have you two been together?”

Robin and I looked at each other with a big ole grin on each other face. I glanced at my watch, “About 3 hours now.”

“What?” the shock and surprise that was all wrapped up in that one exclamation had us both about to fall on the floor. “You're kidding right? You guys just met today?”

It was extremely difficult for me to talk, I was laughing so hard, and Robin wasn't doing much better, but managed to get out, “No, we met yesterday, came out to each other this morning and were bonded to each other about 3 hours ago.”

I reached over and pushed Ryans mouth shut which just made Robin laugh even harder.

“Dang, you two don't believe in long relationships do you?” Ryan asked totally bemused.

I managed to drag my hysterical boyfriend over to the couch were we both collapsed in fits of laughter.

“I mean, damn guys,” Ryan continued while retaking his seat, “Met yesterday, came out to each other this morning, and are already bound to each other?”

I managed to regain some of my control so that I could attempt to explain things to our poor dorm-mate. “Actually, the bonding was kind of an accident. It seems that we have been soul mates for a very, very long time. And when I kissed him this morning and promised that I would always be there for him I unknowingly cast a spell binding me to him. After asking my dads what had happened they explained it to us, and then Robin here did the same thing to be bound with me. Now we can share each others thoughts, emotions, and even see through each others eyes. We have pretty much become one person.” Once again, I had to reach over and close Ryans mouth for him before something flew in.

“You're kidding right? I mean, nobody can do the kinds of things that you just said, that's all fantasy.”

“We'll prove it,” Robin said getting up off the couch. “I'll go into mine and Dann’s room, you can say something to Dann, and also show him something that has nothing to do with what you tell him. I'll then come back in and tell you what you told him and what you showed him. Will that convince you?”

Ryan shook his head in the affirmative so Robin went into our room, “We have GOT to get in here and get this place decorated, it's SO plain in here.” he sent to me from the other room. I gave a little chuckle that managed to get me a funny look from Ryan. “I'll explain in a minute. Ok, shall we get started?”

“Ok, I guess. Just so you know, I'm not gay, but I have no problems with you two being a couple and hope that we really can be friends.” Ryan told me while pulling out his wallet and showing me a picture of him with his parents and little brother before putting it away. “Ok Robin, you can come back in now.” he called out.

Robin came back in, gave Ryan a sideways friendly hug while saying “I hope we can be friends too, and it doesn't matter to us if you're gay or straight. Oh, and your brother is going to be a real looker when he gets older.” He finished that last with a big shit eatin grin on his face which earned him being pushed off the arm of the chair he was sitting on by Ryan. Robin was laughing again by the time he even hit the floor.

“Ok,” Ryan said with a grin on his face, “I believe you. That is SO cool. So Dann, what did he say to you after he left that got you giggling?”

I chuckled again, “Oh, he was just being totally gay and talking about having to decorate our room.”

That got Ryan laughing too. “Well, he is right, I may not be gay, but even I can tell these rooms need some work. They are so plain and sterile.”

“Yeah,” I agreed, “nothing a few well placed posters can't fix.”

Everyone agreed with me. “So, what do you guys have planned for the next couple of weeks till school starts?” Ryan asked us.

Robin and I looked at each other for a moment before turning back to Ryan and in unison saying “Swim.”

That got another chuckle out of Ryan. “You mean here in the schools pool?” he asked.

“Nah, we have a nice big pool at our house, along with a hot tub and other fun stuff.”

Ryan looked crestfallen, “So you guys aren't going to be staying here at the school now? I thought you two were moving in early.”

I looked at Ryan and then at Robin who nodded his head to me. “I'll be back in a minute Ryan, let me go check on something real quick.” I said as I got up and gave his shoulder a quick squeeze as I headed out the door.

I ran down the three floors of our wing and then headed for the administration offices looking for dad and pop. I almost ran Mr. Dowlin over as I came tearing around a corner. “Hold up there Dann, no running. What's your big hurry, is something wrong?” he asked me in a quick barrage.

“Sorry, looking for my dads and I guess you could look at it like that.” I rattled back to him while trying to catch my breath.

“Come on, I think their upstairs in the medical office with Robins mom.” He said as he quickly started to lead me up the main stairs to the third floor.

Sure enough, we found all three of them in the medical office where Ms. Starr was making a list of things she needed to have the office fully stocked. “Dave, Glenn, this young fireball of yours about ran me over downstairs trying to find you, he says something is wrong.” Mr. Dowlin said to me dads.

All three parents got worried looks on their faces and all three started talking at once. “Are you ok?” Dad asked. “Is some one hurt?” pop asked. “Is Robin ok?” Ms. Starr asked.

I held up my hand to get them to stop while I finished catching my breath and then looking at each of them in turn I answered “Yes, No, and Yes.”

“But you told me something was wrong.” Mr. Dowlin said with a confused look on his face.

“I never said that something was wrong per se’, I said that you could say that something was. Robin and I wanted to know if it would be ok for Ryan to come home with us until school starts so he’s not here all alone. None of the other students will be arriving for another week and a half or so.”

The adults all looked at each other for a moment, but it was Mr. Dowlin who broke the silence, “If you two have no problem with it, I don’t see any reason why not. I think it would be a great idea. Like Dann said, he would pretty much be here all alone until the other students arrived.”

“Can he Dad, Pop? We have plenty of room at the new house.” I was almost pleading with them now.

They looked at each other and smiled before looking back at me. “I don’t see why not, it will give you someone other than Robin to hang out with.” Dad said with a knowing grin on his face.

“DAD!” I exclaimed. “We have not even been thinking about anything like that.”

Speak for yourself.” Robin suddenly said in my head with a chuckle which caused me to get a funny look on my face and to turn bright red.

“What’s with the blushing?” pop asked.

“Just something that Robin just said to me. He heard what you said.”

“Well, at least we now know that your link goes farther than just in the same room or line of sight.” Dad said.

“Go tell Ryan to pack a bag and get ready to go, we’re almost done here.” Pop told me.

“I don’t have to,” I replied, “Robin already told him your answer and he’s packing right now.”

The adults all started laughing, “I can see that having you two here will definitely keep things from getting boring around here.” Mr. Dowlin said through his laughter. I just smiled and silently agreed with him.

Ms. Starr finished making her supply list and handed it to Mr. Dowlin, “I think this should do to get me started. We can get anything else that we might end up needing later if the need arises.”

“I’ll get this list to Mr. Redfern this afternoon, and the supplies should be in sometime next week. I’ll give you a call when they are delivered so you can come up and inspect them and put them where you want them.”

“Thank you very much,” Ms. Starr said, “And thank you once again for the job.”

“My pleasure, the fates were really smiling on us when you came into my office this morning.”

We headed down the hall towards my suite to collect Robin and Ryan, I apologized again to Mr. Dowlin for nearly knocking him down. We then all headed back downstairs to head back to the house, and the awaiting pool.
